The island is primarily volcanic, and its beaches are predominantly sandy. black sand of volcanic origin on the west coast, and a few light-sand beaches on the northeast coast (Pointe Baptiste, Calibishie, Batibou). Travelers looking for endless white sand will prefer Anguilla, Saint-Barthélemy or Turks & Caicos. Dominica is chosen for its nature, primary forest, volcanoes, hot springs, diving and resident sperm whales: it's an experience destination.
